-- EVENT FRIDAY, JUNE 17, 2011 7:00 PM -- Cafe Cinema has the tremendous privilege of showing the recent pairing of Cafe Cinema regular, Svetlana, and Cary Grant's one and only daughter, Jennifer Grant.
Svetlana, who helped raise Jennifer from ages 14 to 18 while under the employ of Cary Grant, had not seen her for almost THIRTY years. We have the magical meeting forever saved digitally as the Cafe Cinema slick documentarians were there to capture this fabulous moment.
The meeting took place a few weeks ago at a book signing by Jennifer to promote her biography about Mr. Grant, entitled GOOD STUFF. We will also show 15 minutes of a recently taped interview with Jennifer where she shares her memories of growing up with her most famous father.
Naturally, a Cary Grant film is in order so we will show director Howards Hawks comedic classic, MONKEY BUSINESS (1952), which also stars Ginger Rogers, Charles Coburn and Marilyn Monroe. Even though Marilyn is 4th billing (she wasn't a household name yet), she fortunately has, shall we gander, a very juicy role. Legendary Hollywood director, Howard Hawks, holds nothing back in portraying Cary Grant’s research scientist’s attempts to produce a formula for eternal youth.
Grant's character consumes the formula and truly believes he's getting younger. Its a wonderful blend of slapstick, social satire and flat-out fun.
